Pride 2014

NSRAPlogo-RainbowProvinceThere are a number of Pride celebrations across Nova Scotia throughout the summer months. These are our tentative and confirmed plans for “Summer of Pride ’14:”

  • July 22-25 – NSRAP presents the annual TimeOut lecture series during Halifax Pride (see below)
  • Wednesday, July 23 – NSRAP at the Wolfville Farmers’ Market Pride Night
  • Saturday, July 26 – NSRAP marches in the Halifax Pride parade and has a booth at the Community Fair
  • Saturday, August 12th – NSRAP marches in the Pride Cape Breton parade and has a booth at the Community Fair

timeout2014 timeOUT Talks

Our 9th year of timeOUT events promises to be another rousing success with diverse set of presentations. These events are hosted by the Halifax Public Libraries on the lower level of the Spring Garden Road Memorial Public Library (5381 Spring Garden Road). The space is physically accessible but does not have gender-inclusive washrooms.
All lectures begin at noon and officially end at 1 (though there is often time for discussion afterwards) and is completely free.

Tuesday, July 22: The Spectrum of Trans Identities

A panel of perspectives on what a trans identity is (or what they are). Speakers include Jude Ashburn (non-binary), Kate Shewan (trans woman), Jay Aaron Roy (trans man) and Cybelle Rieber (health implications). RSVP via Facebook.

Wednesday, July 23: ‘A Dialogue’ on James Baldwin

Social worker Robert Wright, and activist and curator Robin Metcalfe discuss James Baldwin’s work, and his queer and black legacies as we approach Baldwin’s 90th birthday. RSVP via Facebook.

Thursday, July 24: Telling Queer Stories

What are the challenges, risks and rewards of telling LGBTQ stories? Panelists will include: an historian (Chris Frazer), a biographer (Evelyn C. White) and a performance maker (Stewart Legere) discuss. RSVP via Facebook.

Friday, July 26: How Not To Be Offended

Activist Kevin Kindred has a modest proposal: that the word “offended” be banned from the English language. Come join the discussion. RSVP via Facebook.
